Dr. Scripsema is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in vitreoretinal surgery and uveitis. She received her undergraduate degrees in Neuroscience, Biochemistry, and Italian from the University of Michigan and completed medical school at New York Medical College. She then attended New York Eye and Ear Infirmary and completed her residency in ophthalmology. Dr. Scripsema furthered her training internationally at Moorfield’s Eye Hospital in London specializing in pediatric and adult uveitis, retinal diseases, and other medical retinal conditions. Returning back to the states, Dr. Scripsema completed an additional fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary at the University of Illinois Chicago.
Dr. Scripsema is actively involved in retinal imaging and clinical research, presenting her work at national and international meetings and has been published in over 10 scientific journals. She is also very passionate about education and serves an Assistant Professor of ophthalmology at Eastern Virginia Medical School training ophthalmology residents, volunteers her time to the Lions Eye Clinic offering free care to reduce the risk of blindness in her community.
Dr. Scripsema is very active and enjoys cycling, swimming, and exploring Hampton Roads.
